War minus the shooting
A practical strategy for libertarian politics, derived from a talk for Students for Liberty

On Saturday, in Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese (rebuilt 1667), I presented a strategy for practical libertarian politics to a gathering of Students for Liberty and the LSE Hayek Society.
My talk was not about ideology. We discussed the challenges of advancing libertarian ideals in practical politics — where to be a libertarian is to be regarded as an alien — and I gave a strategy to make progress. I emphasised that if someone’s goal is to be regarded as a wholly consistent libertarian, they ought not to seek election.
The following is derived from a transcript of my talk.
